IIBN Global Conference - Dublin

On 3rd November, 200 business leaders from London, New York and Dublin descended on Dublin to discuss the idea of "Connectivity" at the IIBN's 6th Annual Global Conference.  The New York Chapter of the IIBN was well represented, with New York Board members Colman Lydon, Mary Ann Pierce and Matt Dunn, as well as IIBN members Kevin FitzGerald and Desmond Lyons in attendance.

Special guest Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade delivered the opening keynote address. Throughout the day, industry leaders from a variety of sectors presented, and several startup founders got the opportunity to deliver their "elevator' pitches to a packed room. With "Connectivity" the conference theme, there were valuable networking opportunities on the schedule. The venues - Bank of Ireland’s House of Lords Building and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland – were intimate and historic and coupled with the diverse range of attendees contributed to the great success of the conference.

The conference represented what the IIBN is all about  – quality people connecting in a stimulating and high energy environment. These sentiments were echoed by NY Board Chair Colman Lydon, who published a review of the conference entitled “Conferences are bunk.  This one wasn’t.”  Kudos to the team behind the conference, most notably Ailbhe Mullen, Conor Foley and Alison Myles, as well as the Irish Board and the sponsors.

Future Leaders Series: The Rise of the Gig Economy with Pete Johnston, Founder & CEO, Kalo

In collaboration with Bank of Ireland's startlab, IIBN NY kicked off its Fall keynote series with Northern Irish entrepreneur, Pete Johnston, Founder & CEO, Kalo on Wednesday, 4th October.

The event was an excellent start to the fall series of events and provided the 80 attendees a fresh outlook on the future of the workforce. Key moments from the evening included how Pete took the steps to leave Google to securing seed investment from two Paypal founders Peter Thiel & Max Levchin and the challenges a young CEO faces.

The top tip from the night was to Network, Network and if that does not work then Network more.
